Vivi the Star!

A recent article I sent to a local NYC newspaper that I thought you might want to read...

Dear Am/NY,
Just writing to tell you that I really like your paper. I read it daily. I find it more intelligent than the 3rd grade level NYC rags out there (Daily News and Post). I've always liked your paper because you are fairly balanced, and you keep the sensationalism to a minimum. You've also done a great job on reporting the messy inner workings (or non-workings) of the MTA and the fact that your paper is free doesn't hurt. So good job AM/NY! Hats off...

However...

That said, I have to quickly comment on your half page story (and web page story: http://www.amny.com/news/local/newyork/ny-livivi22-0322,0,6045530.story) about Vivi the poor lost Champion Bohem C'est La Vie... What?

Not to be cruel here, but who really gives a rat's *ss about Vivi? I'm a vegetarian. I'm vehemently opposed to the ugly fur and leather trades. I'm a strong proponent of the ethical treatment of animals and a big dog lover, but come on! There are still more important things to report on, right? Please don't feed us articles that read like story-time at the local elementary school. I thought you were the good guys? The “real news” people?

Bottom line, Vivi was a champion show dog who left Kennedy Airport to pursue other interests... probably a poodle or shitzu. So, can you just leave it at that and maybe use your ink and valuable page space to report on the war or the economy or the environment or corporate greed or ______ (fill in blank here)?

So, no disrespect but sorry Jil Walton of Claremont, California, Vivi is probably gone. You and Rick should go ahead and have your wedding. Get another dog. Get on with life. Vivi would have wanted it that way. And, I dare say, most of us want our half-page of news back...

Thanks for the rant,
-Steve
